The Carpet Museum in Ashgabat is unique, it houses about eight thousand hand-made carpets of the best model of all time, the oldest of which belongs to the XVIIth century. One of the most valuable exhibits of the museum is the Turkmen Kalba carpet with the total area of 193.5 square meters, created in 1941-1942. Another largest carpet in the world is the Golden Age carpet with the area of 301 square. m, created in honor of the 10th anniversary of the independence of Turkmenistan. It has been woven by 40 carpetmakers from the district center Baharden for 8 months, and was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the world`s largest handmade carpet.
In another showroom there is an antique Turkmen village reproduced in every historical detail, where ancient carpet art models are shown. On the second floor there are the best works of the modern carpetmakers, collected from all the provinces of Turkmenistan.
